Colour of the year…

I smiled when I read that Benjamin Moore chose Raspberry Blush as the colour of the year 2023. If I hadn’t been in London this summer, I would have been shocked to see this; however, this coral colour was everywhere (so much so I was tempted to buy a cashmere sweater set in coral until my daughter questioned whether I would actually wear it…more than once).   We dubbed coral the “colour of London“.

This photo (left) is of the lounge, The Pine Bar, in our hotel, where we spent many hours in the evenings. Once we had (finally) cooled off and had our refreshments, the room wrapped us in luxury, comfort and calm. The underlying decorating theme was coral. All the hotel’s public rooms had significant touches of the colour coral.

Coral is not a colour that jumps to mind when decorating my own home, but I admit to having a crush on this feminine hue that isn’t too sweet. I know I wouldn’t paint my walls this Raspberry Blush, but as an accent colour, it complements all neutral shades in a most pleasing way.

Other locations in London…

These are the colours Benjamin Moore suggests to complement Raspberry Blush. Our London hotel used a more muted shade of North Sea Green to ground its palette. Velvet was the upholstery fabric used almost exclusively, adding to the softness and richness of the colours.

Can a colour lift us out of the doldrums we’ve endured over the past two years of Covid or the hardship many feel from the higher cost of living?   I wonder…
