Oh Happy Days…

The day the burlap comes off the boxwood is either a great day or a disaster.  I’ve experienced both.  This week, I had some really good days!

I started removing the burlap in the back over this past weekend and with the exception of two or three sad looking boxwoods, everything else has fared well over the winter.  I can thank Nature for providing all the snow, rain, and constant cold temperatures, (no freeze, thaw) to keep my garden safe.

Spring was slow coming.  According to photos I took last year, we are at least a week later for the “big reveal”.

There was still snow in the back shady parts of the garden and to my surprise, tulips were peeking out through the snow.  How amazing is that!  The peonies are waking up too.

Today the burlap came off the front  boxwood hedge and it’s green, with the odd one showing some bronzing, which is normal.  Once they get some sun, those boxwoods will green up nicely.  I didn’t see any that look like they should be replaced but it’s early in the season and I could still lose a few.  All in all, I’m happy…very happy.

This year I want to start clipping the hedges again.  Two years ago I had to replace over a hundred boxwoods and have since let them grow and fill out.  I’m not a perfectionist by nature, but I do like a tightly trimmed hedge..  The uneven heights and widths have bothered me, but fingers crossed I can rectify that soon.

I’m sure you are all busy bees in your gardens too…the season has begun.  Enjoy the sunshine… April showers are on the way. xox Judy❤️

  1. That’s great news Judy, and what a relief it must be. I’ve been on a little get away with my daughter, but we left instructions with Rick and the dogs regarding yard clean up. Lol. So I can expect a lot of yard work when we get home. It will be a pleasure to be working in the yard after the long winter. I see the rose houses at Greenland are open.

    1. Hi Karen, what fun to be away with your daughter…hopefully you are somewhere warm and beautiful with retail therapy! Enjoy…there is probably a lot of work in the garden to do when you get back. xox Judy❤️

    2. Hi again Karen…I was out to Greenland this afternoon and picked up two beautiful roses…the Rose House is full of temptation.

  2. Wow, your boxwoods are looking great Judy and your tulips are having a wonderful start already! I haven’t got anything coming up yet so I hope the bulbs I planted in the fall are just a little slow😰🤞. I know we’re supposed to get snow this weekend but I think I’m just going to be a rebel and start putting out my statuary anyway…I can’t wait any longer! I look forward to seeing how the rest of your garden blooms🥰. Hugs, Karen xo❤️

    1. Hi Karen, I’m sure your bulbs will wake up soon…it’s possible that you planted them a little deeper than I did which will probably serve you better in the long run. The weather is so temperamental at this time of year it’s hard to know when to get the garden decor out…you may have to get out the winter jacket, hats and mitts, but it will look great! Every time it snows I think it’s for the last time for the season…wishful thinking. xox Judy❤️
