Sarah in the garden…

This is the wallpaper I choose for the powder room.  The pattern name is “Hummingbirds” and as you will see, they are fluttering in every direction.

Wallpaper I’ve used in the past always had a pattern repeat depending on the size of the design.  This paper, however, was measured in pre-set lengths as per the measurements I sent to the company.  In the image (right) you will notice the difference in the size of the bird.  The larger bird is from the sample and above it is the actual size of the same bird on the paper I was sent.  I’ll assume the pattern was shrunk down because I was only papering above the subway tiled wainscotting, not the full length of a wall.

*If you are considering doing a similar project, you may want to confirm the pattern size with the company before you order.  I would have preferred the larger scale for this project.

These are the before and after photos.

I’m happy I was able to piece together unused strips, (where the door is), to paper the bulk head area.  To soften the transition between the paper and subway tiles, I painted the moulding and door a “barely-there” shade of pink.  In the taller ceiling space, I painted in Annie Sloan, “Antoinette”.

Sarah is back in her rightful place and I’m happy the wallpaper does complement her fairly well.  Bernhardt had a summer home on the island of Belle Ile en Mer where she had benches placed everywhere to enjoy the views from many vantage points.  I’ll assume she had an appreciation of nature and I have to believe she would be happy in the garden!

To add to the “garden theme”, (my imagination is working overtime!), I’ve added a “sun” mirror that reflects a painting of my greenhouse done by one of my son’s friends.  He took a photo of the greenhouse (which he used as inspiration for this painting) when we were all together one Mother’s Day.  It was a fun day and a wonderful memory for me.

Like most decorating projects, one thing leads to another.  Now I plan to change the faucet, towel ring, toilet paper holder, light switch plate, waste basket, guest towels …

This sign is on the outside of the door to the powder room.  It’s a joke really, as my powder room is so not anything like the Ritz Hotel restrooms!

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone.

xox Judy❤️

  1. The paper is beautiful Judy, as are your paint colors! Very fitting for Sarah. Happy Valentine’s Day to you as well.

  2. Just a wee question?? How big is your powder room as in some pics it looks small and others it looks big but the paper & decor can also trick the eye! Happy Valentine’s Day. Also love the paint and paper

    1. Thank you Paula, my powder room is quite small…5′ x 5′. Happy Valentine’s Day, xox Judy❤️

  3. Thank you Karen, I hope there is nice box of chocolates heading your way…Happy Valentine’s Day. xox Judy❤️

  4. Judy, it’s stunning!!! This is truly inspiring. I love the wallpaper and I love that shade of pink. They go together perfectly and it’s all so fresh and inviting but very classy as well. I have my “toilette” sign (purchased at your store years ago!) on my main floor bathroom door and, although this sounds silly, it gives me a little lift each time I see it. It’s a small detail but adds so much character to an otherwise boring area in the hallway. Your bathroom is gorgeous and Sarah looks completely at home and very happy in her new surroundings! Way to go on another gorgeous project completed! Hugs, Karen xo❤️

    1. Thank you Karen, I, too, have had the “Toilette” sign hanging for many years and agree, it’s the little things that bring joy. I hope you are inspired to paper your powder room too! Happy Valentine’s Day, xox Judy❤️
