Holiday entertaining is fast approaching, and for some of us, this skill does not come naturally! The decorating and planning is the easy part, getting the food to the table is another story all together!!!
We’ve had very little snow so far and I think because of that Christmas has crept up faster than I thought. I’m not as prepared as I should be.
We have our first dinner for family this weekend which has motivated me to get going. The guests are picky eaters (like me!), so menu planning is dicey. One doesn’t like fruit! and another doesn’t like most vegetables, most like rare meat but one likes well done. Therefore, the dinner will be simple which is a good thing for me!
My colour scheme is different this year. I’ve really leaned into the burgundy red/pink with fresh, natural greenery. It’s simpler than in the past but it’s given me an opportunity to use dinnerware and table lines that haven’t been used in some time.

I also latched on to the “ribbons, ribbons, ribbons” theme using double-backed satin and velvet burgundy on wreaths, tied to the tips of the Christmas tree and around the greenery on the table centrepiece. Another easy but effective decorating tip is using the battery operated, copper wired, warm white mini lights. Fresh greens are readily available at garden centres and should last (or almost last) until Christmas. I’ve planted my paper white bulbs and amaryllis. Pale pink roses compliment the table linens and tableware. And, of course, candles all around.

I want to wish you a happy holiday season. I know it’s stressful, but entertaining is usually with family and thankfully they are not too critical!
Enjoy the season, xox Judy❤️

Love your newsy news letter.
Have a wonderful Christmas, Judy.

Beautiful Judy! Have a fabulous weekend and Happy Holidays! Xo
Thank you Pat, I hope you have a wonderful Christmas too with the family…please say “hello” from me. xox Judy❤️
Beautifully done, as always Judy! The red and pink is so warm and inviting. I was happy to see the “bow” theme return this Christmas, so I could use some of my ribbon “collection,” my favorite being the double sided satin. It seems to be impossible to find in Edmonton, and I haven’t had any luck on line for the chartreuses green that I love. If you have any source tips on ribbon, I would love to hear.
I have no doubt your dinner this weekend will be brilliant!
Cheers.
Thank you Karen, I hope you are able to find the ribbon you are looking for…chartreuse is an interesting twist on traditional Christmas green. As it turns out, I’ve had to postpone my dinner for a couple of weeks as I’ve come down with a wicked cold. So much for planning ahead! Have fun decorating, xox Judy❤️
Your table and your tree look stunning Judy! I love the pink and burgundy colours … so warm and stylish. I must admit I’ve gone a bit crazy with ribbons and of course my mini lights as well. I always find that it makes the house so cozy to have the house lights dimmed but let the tree lights, candles (battery-operated) and mini lights set the tone. It’s the one time of year I can get away with it😂. I hope you’re feeling better soon and I wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas and all the very best for the New Year! Hugs, Karen xo❤️
Thank you Karen, it sounds like you’ve have cast a wonderful warm and cozy spell over your home. Enjoy the season with the family and the warmest wishes for a happy New Year. Thankfully I’m on the mend…just in time for Santa! xox Judy❤️
Merry Christmas to you and your family, Judy. Your decorating is divine, as always. Enjoy the holiday season and stay warm. Fondly, Carol (Tattered Rose)
Thank you Carol, So good to hear from you. Hope you are staying happy and well…all the best for a wonderful Christmas and an exciting New Year. xox Judy❤️
