Spring?…

Today (March 20) is officially the first day of Spring 2025. “This is determined by the Earth’s tilt on its axis as it travels around the Sun.” Spring can fall between March 19 and 23.

Does it look like Spring in your neighbourhood? As you can see, there is still a lot of snow in my front and back garden. This photo, taken on March 18, is of my back garden, which is south-facing! Although I’m happy with the snow and moisture we’ve had the last couple of weeks, I’m ready for winter to be over—and I love winter!

A bonus this winter is that the spruce trees appear to have fared much better than last year…no signs of brown, dry needles so far.

I’m always in a “green” state of mind on St. Patrick’s Day. I was thrilled to find pussywillows and bundles of curly willow at the florist, which got me thinking about Spring.

That inspired me to switch over the dining room from a cozy winter vibe to a fresh spring look. Off with the velvet tablecloth and on with a lighter, pale green one.

From there I gathered green accessories to create vignettes to hold me over until the snow is gone and the spring season has actually arrived. The open book is my photo book of my garden in Spring. The photos on these pages are of the apple blossoms on the espalier taken on May 18, 2021…what a difference eight weeks makes.

  1. Still tons of snow in my backyard as well Judy. I sort of feel that our Winters are starting later than normal, and thus true Spring arrives later as well. Even though there is much snow to melt, it cheers me up to change the decor inside to match my Spring mood. You have created lovely vignettes with varying shades of green, and I always love Pussy Willows. Every Spring I think I’m going to take a drive into the countryside to find Pussy Willows. Maybe this year I will actually do that. But I’m thinking that is a few weeks away yet. ❤️

    1. Hi Karen, taking a drive out to the countryside to find Pussy Willows sounds like the perfect start to the Spring season. I hope you find a treasure trove of them. xox Judy❤️
