It may still look like winter outdoors but it’s definitely Spring indoors!
Blue and white is hardly a new concept for Spring decorating. (This reminds me of Miranda Priestly’s, “The Devil Wears Prada”, sarcastic comment, “Florals? For Spring? Groundbreaking”.) When I was buying inventory for my store, blue and white was prominent for Spring/Summer, especially planters, ginger jars, tableware (chinoiserie), and table and bed linens. Although I wanted it available for my customers, I’ve never had a blue decorating scheme in my own home even though I loved the look. My home has had a gold/grey/black and creamy white colour palette for years…too long as it turns out. I’m now officially on the “blue” bandwagon. How I wish I had access to some of the items I bought for CC!
It all started when I replaced the carpet in the living room. As you know, when you order online the colour on the screen often isn’t what it is in actuality. As the delivery people unrolled the carpet, I was thrilled with the pattern and colour even though it wasn’t exactly what I was expecting. The dominant colour was dark blue. That’s when the decorating snowball began…
My present sofa is at least 20 years old and has held up well, a testament to the quality and classic styling. It has two seat cushions and I was considering having it converted into a bench seat and the upholsterer was confident there would be enough fabric to make it work. It’s charcoal grey velvet and it looks OK with the carpet but I decided to replace it with a dark blue velvet sofa. Happily my grandson is excited about moving the old sofa into his man cave…hopefully it fits going down and around a narrow stairway!
I’ve had lots of inspiration from Pinterest and YouTube…this is what my mood boards would look like.
The new sofa will not arrive for another month or so but I’ve already started switching over accessories to complement a blue and white colour scheme.
Blue and white will be my Spring/Summer decor theme, but I’m already thinking about how to include blue into a Fall/Winter look. I’ll probably add gold to the mix which should offer a pleasing contrast since blue and yellow are both primary colours.
I think using blue in decor is a safe choice and doesn’t have to be considered a trend…blue and white has always been classic.
How have you been occupying your time while waiting for the gardening season to begin?
