The current “nose” for Dior, perfumer Francis Kurkdjian, has reinvented “Miss Dior”. And it smells divine!
The original “Miss Dior” scent is my all-time favourite perfume. Full disclosure…I don’t have a good “nose“, but I’ve never wavered in my love of this perfume. Unfortunately, it is no longer in production. Over the years, as Dior has hired new perfumers, each has put their stamp on the original scent to the point that it’s almost no longer recognizable. However, the scent of the latest “Miss Dior” is a nod to the original.
According to my nose, I’d say it doesn’t have the depth (musky) or as much of the powdery finish as the original, but its scent is heavenly…I love it. And the fruity/floral notes do smell like Spring.
It may be a coincidence that the new series about Christian Dior, “The New Look”, streaming on Apple TV, was released along with the launch of the new Miss Dior perfume. Although it is not first-hand footage, it’s a drama based on actual facts. It’s riveting!
It starts with the occupation of France during WW11. Christian Dior, a kind and gentle man, worked as a designer in Paris at the time but was completely distraught that his sister, Catherine, had gone missing. Catherine, a part of the resistance, was captured and sent to a concentration camp near the end of the war. Coco Chanel is portrayed as a feisty, independent, complex character. Assuming the storyline is somewhat accurate, I’ve also learned some new things about Chanel.
A new episode is released every week, and I’m impatiently waiting for the part where “The New Look” was presented by Dior in 1947 after he decided to open his own couture house. I’m guessing that the “Miss Dior” perfume, named after his sister, will be part of this storyline as the perfume was also created in 1947.
Although it’s freezing outdoors, Spring is just around the corner. My Spring arrived in a beautiful bottle…hopefully, Spring will come early to your house, too!
