Although the fields are brown, it’s looking like we may have a “whitish” Christmas, and based on the long-range forecast, we’ll have to be happy with what we have.
Like most of you, I have my home decorated for the season, awaiting the family, guests and Santa’s arrival. I’ve picked up the fresh greenery from the florist, most of the Paperwhites are blooming (I planted containers weekly to get a staggered bloom period), and the Amaryllis is in full bloom. So far, most of the mini lemon cypress trees are holding up. However, they must be watered often so they don’t dry out.
This is my table setting for our small dinner party this weekend. I’ve gone with the “fresh greenery trend” for the centrepiece with some white roses sprinkled with candlelight.
It has an overall green and white colour scheme with a bit of fun added by way of the “12 days of Christmas” side plates I’ll be serving the salad and dessert on.
Now the pressure is really on to get the gift shopping done, wrapped and delivered…that dreaded trip to the post office is coming up for me!
It’s so easy, though, to lose sight of what really is essential. Somehow, everything gets done on time…if you forget to pick up something at the grocery store, you can get by without it, your family and friends will be happy with the gifts you’ve chosen for them, and if you manage to get the dinner to the table without burning the house down, everyone will be fed to full or over full.
In the midst of the chaos, I hope you find some time to relax before the big day. A bubble bath, a glass (or 2) of icy cold champagne, and a date with a classic holiday movie are just what the doctor ordered!
For you, my friends and followers, I wish you the happiest Christmas. I’ve so enjoyed our weekly conversations and hearing from you in the comments or directly through email.
Too soon, it’s all over…I hope you find the magic.
