An Unlikely Guest Emerges…

My mom, Judy (author of Apres CC on Whyte), and I were having one of our daily discussions when I inquired, “What are you writing about this week?”

She was at a loss; I made of few suggestions as usual (I can’t help myself), to which she replied, “Guest blogger?” This is not the first time she has proposed the guest blogger idea but for some reason now I was feeling inspired. I am supposed to be working from home but I am procrastinating and this seemed more enjoyable, albeit once I started, nerve-racking.

As our phone call continued I shared a tidbit from my last evening:

After a hot bath, I was feeling a bit agitated given the uncertain times. I looked out my front window to see the cul-de-sac was dark and strangely quiet. So quiet in fact, still in my housecoat, I was lured outside with reckless abandonment of the paparazzi (because I am famous, you know). As I stood on my driveway in my cozy attire, still warm from the bath, I was overcome by the silence. It was snowing that soothing, soft snow that seems to dance in the sky before it descends to the earth’s ground. As I watched for some time, the snow sparkling in the streetlight, a sense of peace arose inside of me.

Now for those of you who know me even in passing, serenity or mindfulness would not be words that jump to your mind when you think of me and I am not of the Whoo Hoos into spiritual signs. Of course, I am off my rocker about other things…just ask my teenage boys.

But I digress, watching and sensing this moment of peace after a day of engorging in the news and arguing with my kids that yes, they do have to stay home, a song popped into my scattered, weary brain, Bob Marley, ‘Three Little Birds,’ of all songs. Given I am not a die-hard Bob Marley fan… the song is not even on my 300 song playlist… this was unusual, but again comforting.

As I walked back inside the lyrics, “Cause every little thing gonna be alright”, floating in my head, I felt as though, yes Bob is on to something, everything is going to be alright.

During this uneasy time, perhaps try to find moments to savour. Make a DIY hand mask to soothe your cracking skin from all the incessant hand washing, turn on Netflix, and perhaps consider being a guest blogger, Judy is taking offers.

Sending you all healthy wishes.
