Snow falling…

I often hear people grumbling about the weather,  exclaiming “why would you live where you have to shovel snow, protect yourself from freezing winds and drive on icy roads?”  And I’m sure the airports are busy this week with weather wary travellers wanting to escape, as the mercury drops into the -30’sC.

Even I have to admit that when the temperatures dip down into the minus 30’s it can be difficult to see the beauty around us, but if you can, it makes for a much shorter winter season.  Is there anything more perfect than a fresh, untouched blanket of snow…or that quiet that only comes in winter?

If you were lucky enough to grow up in a wintery city, you will have precious memories of good times that only comes when the thermometer dips below zero.  You will remember the sound of the ice cracking as you glide across it with freshly sharpened blades or the cold breeze on your face as you whiz down the hill on your toboggan…not to mention the hours spent honing your skills at snowman making or building snow forts. In truth, probably the best part of all was coming inside after all that cool fresh air, tired and warming up with a hot cup of cocoa.

Maybe it’s true that winter is best appreciated by children, but we are never too old to remember that all the fun times we had in winter only came after the snow began to fall!

P.S.  I read on my newsfeed today that this book, “The Snowy Day” by Ezra Jack Keats is the most borrowed book of all time from the New York library…

  1. I will try to focus on these happy childhood memories as I venture out in the frigid weather today!
PS – Finally bought the Embryolisse body cream that you recommended in a previous blog. OMG, love love it, as do two other friends who bought it!

    1. HI Karen, Hope your childhood memories got you through another chilly day! I’m happy you found Embryolisse…I love it too. It’s no wonder it is backstage in every makeup artist’s kit! Keep warm…

  2. Judy: Thanks for your post about winter weather. I too think people who run away from it are missing something special. Even if you have to shovel and get around in –30 there is something very special about coming inside and being met by a warm room (and happy dog). You and Jim take care and stay warm.

    Love, Dick

  3. Hi Dick…it looks no one is escaping chilling winter conditions. I’m sure your “happy dog” is bouncing around in the snow just like our “happy dog” is…there is always a silver lining!
