A Blank Canvas…

 

A blank canvas hasn’t been drawn or painted on yet — it’s clean and unmarked… dictionary definition

 

Everyone’s blank canvas has a different connotation.   An artist sees a stretched canvas on their easel with a palette of paints, a writer sees a ream of paper with a cup of freshly sharpened pencils, a designer sees a roll of exquisite fabric, a hair stylist sees a shampooed head of hair with trusted scissors in hand, a landscape artist sees an open field and on and on. For me, a blank canvas suggests a new start.   No two of us have the same blank canvas.

This post will mark the beginning of year two for Après CC on Whyte. The computer screen for the blog page has been ‘dark’ for several weeks…a blank canvas awaiting a new start and direction.  I’ve been mulling over how to proceed…with a new vision.   Although being organized (planning ahead) is not my strong suit, it may be the best approach in the future.  Time will be my guide. Each calendar month offers up special occasions, and with the changes in the seasons and weather our homes, gardens and social activities adjust to accommodate.  This will be the starting point.

The first few days or weeks of September are a good time to press ‘pause‘ and make a plan for what the coming hectic months are going to look like… to plan a strategy to most effectively use your time and energy.

I concur with the quote above.  September seems like the beginning of the year…not the 3/4 mark.  It’s time to get back to a routine now that the casual,  unstructured days of summer are over.  With the start of the school year comes the excitement of meeting up with old friends (and the possibility of meeting new friends), and the opportunity to learn new lessons.     Social calendars will fill up quickly now that everyone has returned from vacation and the performing arts and sports seasons gear up.  The new TV season starts in September…Big Little Lies.  Retail stores unveil the new fashions for the coming season.  Our closets make the shift from summer to fall with the sweaters and scarves finding their way to the top of the heap.

 

What will your blank canvas look like over the coming season?  Are you the type of person who plans out the future down to the exact detail creating a “realistic” canvas or are you a free spirit with an “abstract” canvas?   Will it be a masterpiece by Christmas?

I’m hoping my canvas will be somewhere in between…” an achievable “impressionist”  with some blurred lines.
